Associate Data Engineer

The Medical Affairs team collaborates with the leaders of Sleep, Respiratory Care, SaaS, ResMed Healthcare, and Asia Growth Markets to ensure our work, especially our clinical research and market access projects, align with their strategic priorities. We also review key government policies, as part of the continuous evaluation and improvement process that helps us maintain global compliance across an ever-shifting landscape of legal and regulatory requirements. The two, research and compliance, work hand-in-hand, and when balanced properly allow us to generate important clinical, economic and market evidence, that improves the lives of patients in ways that are scientifically valid, clinically relevant and ethically sound.

Job summary:

The Associate Data Engineer will be an integral member on the Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR) team at ResMed that covers the full portfolio of our solutions (hardware, software and digital health). The HEOR team is responsible for strategy and evidence generation to meet value, access and payment policy needs. Team members also serve as a key collaborator on teams within the Medical Affairs organization focused on evidence generation and value demonstration. This position will be part of the HEOR Real World Evidence (RWE) Center which serves as a centralized entity that aims to produce scientifically sound RWE research for internal use and external dissemination, primarily for value-based decision makers. ​

While this role will be based in North America, you may collaborate closely on global evidence generation efforts for ResMed to leverage evidence across varied country payment processes and policies. This role will work with other members of Medical Affairs and will also work on cross functional teams across Sleep & Respiratory Care, SaaS, DHT and other relevant business entities.

Let’s talk about responsibilities:

  • Assemble large, complex data that meet functional/non-functional business requirements.
  • Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing transformation for greater scalability, etc.
  • Use the infrastructure/services required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources using SQL and AWS services.
  • Create data for analytics and data scientist team members that assist them in building and optimizing our product.
  • Work with stakeholders including the Product, Data and Design teams to assist with data-related technical issues and support their data requirement needs.
  • Create and maintain optimal data pipeline architecture in AWS.
  • Keep our data separated and secure across boundaries through multiple AWS regions.
  • Work with external HIPAA Expert Determination vendor to ensure data is HIPAA-compliant
  • Work on data tools for HEOR RWE Center team members that assist them in building and optimizing our research and/or product into an innovative industry leader.
  • Work with data and analytics experts to strive for greater functionality in our data systems.
  • Participate in business events, conferences, trade shows and seminars.
  • Participate in multiple cross functional projects.
  • Other tasks and responsibilities may be assigned

Let’s talk about qualifications and experience:

  • Bachelor/Engineering degree in IT / Computer Science/ software engineering or relevant field
  • 1 – 2 years of relevant experience in a complex, technical environment
  • Advanced working SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases, query authoring (SQL) as well as working familiarity with a variety of databases.
  • Experience performing root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Conceptual understanding about Data Lakes
  • Excellent communication and able to work with stakeholders

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with cloud data warehouse (e.g. Snowflake or Redshift)
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code software (e.g. Terraform or Cloudformation)
  • Experience with a data science programming language (e.g. R or Python).
  • Experience in manipulating, processing and extracting value from large disconnected datasets.
  • Experience with AWS cloud services: (Redshift, RDS, EMR, Kinesis, S3, Glue, DMS-Batch/CDC, Athena, EC2, Lambda, etc.) (at least two)
  • Exposure to AWS Data Pipeline and CI/CD processes
  • Exposure to Hadoop Ecosystem preferably on AWS/EMR, NoSQL-based, SQL-like technologies
  • Exposure to Data Science tools & technologies on AWS Cloud is plus
  • Experience supporting and working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment.
  • Travel as needed for the role, with approximately 10% (Domestic and International)
