Senior Software Engineer – VISTA

Specific Job Description

Visual Interactive Simulation Training Application (VISTA) applications are interactive simulations of complex electrical and mechanical systems that are used for maintenance training. These applications allow the learner to acquire the necessary skills to power up, power down, and troubleshoot system equipment in a free play environment. The applications are developed in Java using standard commercially available development tools. The developer will be part of a development team responsible for the creation and modification of VISTA applications for the Department of National Defence (DND) and will be asked to participate in an agile software development cycle covering requirements analysis to customer acceptance.

Duties/responsibilities:

  • Participate in the analysis of complex systems to define VISTA software requirements
  • Design, develop, and maintain VISTA software modules
  • Participate in the test and validation of software modules
  • Participate in the review and installation of VISTA applications.

Required skills, qualifications and experience

  • Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent
  • 5+ years of experience with Java development
  • Knowledge of object-oriented design principles and design patterns
  • Knowledge of agile software development lifecycle
  • Experience with development tools such as Eclipse, IntelliJ, JUnit, Spring, Subversion
  • Well organized and capable of planning, scheduling, and prioritizing work
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.

Desired skills, qualifications and experience

  • Test-Driven Development (TDD)
  • Three Dimensional (3D) development
  • Active security clearance (NATO Secret) considered an asset for this role.
