Job Summary

The Faculty of Medicine (FoM) inspires and enables excellence in health care through its medical education and research programs, and by serving and engaging society. This position will be shared 50/50 between two clinical academic departments and has a dual reporting relationship. Reporting to the Physician Resource Manager in the Department of Psychiatry (DoP), and to the Financial Manager in the Department of Family Medicine, the incumbent will spend 50% of their time in each department providing IT support and database management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assists faculty and staff with desktop/laptop setup and support including remote desktop support and set-up. Troubleshoots issues and resolves problems on an ongoing basis.
  • Acts as a department resource and contact for Nova Scotia Health IT and Medical IT. Troubleshoots IT issues with institutions on behalf of faculty and staff. Establishes contacts within the institutions to assist in troubleshooting issues.
  • Manages the DoP physician billing system (Med-Access) by collaborating with vendors, troubleshooting issues and ensuring the software system is meeting the long-term objectives of the department.
  • Identifies and manages new projects that expand the use of the database. Develops project proposals, identifies required resources, prioritizes projects, implements approved project development, and project manages all activities.
  • Acts as primary department contact with the database developer, assigning project work, identifying project objectives, overseeing project progress, troubleshooting project problems, authorizing and approving database developer contracts and invoices.
  • Provides technical support for videoconferencing and distributed meeting coordination. Manages the use and maintenance of videoconferencing suite(s). Coordinates maintenance of equipment and room.

Note Qualifications

Diploma in Information Technology Systems, audio-visual technology or related field, plus five years of relevant work experience (or equivalent combination of training and experience) is required. Demonstrated expertise in database management. Demonstrated expertise with videoconferencing technologies, and online web conferencing tools. Networking knowledge experience. Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. Proficient skills in common computer applications. Proven project management skills. Interpersonal, communication and organizational skills. Ability to meet deadlines and work productively in a collaborative environment in two departments and two locations. Self-motivated and able to work independently. Ability to work within a team. Knowledge of the clinical academic environment preferred.
