Overview

The Electromechanical Technician is responsible to the Manager – Clinical Engineering. Electromechanical Technicians are involved in the repair, calibration, installation, and safety and performance inspections on designated electromechanical patient care devices. The Technician is active in equipment management, special projects, safety initiatives and risk management programs of the department. The Technician is required to perform his/her duties in a responsible, professional, manner, acting within the framework and guidelines of the department. The Technician is expected to work closely with other staff members of the Clinical Engineering Service, client clinical staff, and other health care professionals to find solutions for patient safety, and equipment related issues.

Technicians are involved in the repair, modification, calibration, installation, and safety and performance inspections on a variety of devices including but not limited to beds, stretchers, renal dialysis chair and sterile processing equipment. Overtime may be required, and some variability in working hours may be necessary to minimize equipment downtime.

Qualifications

  • Must have successfully completed an Electronic or Electromechanical Technician program (or acceptable equivalent).
  • Grade 12.
  • Travel to other sites is required. Valid NS’s Driving license and access to a reliable transportation is required; Technicians regularly travel between sites.
  • Technicians must also hold or be able to obtain a valid passport.
  • Must able to troubleshoot, repair, calibrate and otherwise maintain electronic and mechanical equipment.
  • Candidates must clearly demonstrate extensive experience in repair and maintenance of both the electronics and steam components found in sterile processing equipment in their application.
  • Proficiency with basic office software such as MS Word and Excel as well as Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMSS).
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of hospital personnel and outside agencies.
  • Ability to solve both technical and non-technical problems in a reasonably proficient manner.
  • Ability to work independently with a minimum of direct supervision.
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred.

Hours of Work: Permanent Full-Time position, 75 hours bi-weekly.

Salary Information: $26.4582 – $27.7977 hourly
