Making the Right Marketing Decisions with Roddis Communications – Digital Nova Scotia – Leading Digital Industry
Making the Right Marketing Decisions with Roddis Communications

Helping their clients with a variety of marketing tools, Roddis Communications supports organizations with virtually everything to help support their sales and growth objectives. Roddis provides services to a wide variety of clients with various organization sizes- from self-employed service providers, non-profit sports organizations, and all the way up to multi-million international organizations. A common approach they take is how they interact with their clients, describing them as “entrepreneurial organizations”. The thread that binds them all together is that they are interested in improving what they do, and are open to new ideas and approaches to solve their problems. Some of the services they provide include;

  • Strategic support
  • Branding and graphic design
  • Web development and support
  • Digital & Social Media Marketing
  • Video creation and more!

Supporting Key Nova Scotian Sectors

With a team of dedicated, happy, funny, and hardworking people, Roddis Communications focuses not just on the task at hand but also on businesses and clients as a whole. Rather than talking about a single campaign, they’re often trying to figure out what the business or organization is doing, and trying to see how marketing efforts or activities can support the overall goals of the organization. They love finding great ways to communicate effectively, and sometimes the customers are internal as opposed to external. This means they’re using their web development skills to build company intranets or reporting tools to help increase and improve internal communication.

Their clients value partnership, and for some clients, Roddis Communications acts as their entire marketing team, with honest communication being valued by both sides. They’ve had a long association with technical manufacturers, especially those serving export markets, and were an early tenant at the Centre for Ocean Ventures and Entrepreneurship (COVE). The team is proud to support a number of companies and organizations working within Ocean Tech, a critical sector for Nova Scotia and Canada as a whole as the industry continues to evolve.

Keeping Up With the Change of Pace

While COVID-19 hasn’t made things easy for the Roddis team, they consider themselves to have been very lucky being able to work together, in a safe manner, and even were able to welcome a new team member in June.  They give credit to the various government agencies and local organizations like NSBI and ACOA who helped put programs in place to help support export-focused organizations. These programs have allowed a number of their clients to find new markets and opportunities, adapt to the new climate, and continue to grow, succeed and improve.

I love the improvements and enhancements we have made to the team over the last few years, and I think it’s reflected in the quality of the work we do. I am very lucky to have a team of people who are always willing to try something new.

– David Roddis, President of Roddis Communications.

“I always remember talking to Joy, our Creative Director, a few years ago and complaining that the pace of change in web development meant that we were changing the way we did things every few months.” Says David. To this, her response was “I love the fact that we’re always looking to do things a different way, in a better way!”. This was a stark reminder to David that he wouldn’t be happy doing things the same old way, and that one of the best things about his job is that we can work with clients how are ultimately interested in improvement, and willing to work with the Roddis team over long periods of time to continually improve.

Hiring Great People

While there can be challenges, Roddis Communications has a great set of clients, many of who have been with them for many years, and so relationships with those clients are a lot of fun for the team. They do serious work, but also make sure there is always time to get together at lunch and all watch something together in the lunchroom. “At think at this point, we’ve worked through The Office, Parks, and Recreation, Brooklyn 99, Schitts Creek and are now on to Modern Family. It’s a silly thing but I love that we get together and watch something funny together, though sometimes the fun is how each one of us may react to a specific show or scene.” Says David.

David hopes to have a culture where everyone’s opinion is heard. He states he is actually most proud when the team disagrees with his opinion, and it ends up being the right choice to listen to them. When the team seeks out new employees they love intelligent people with great attitudes who show an aptitude for their chosen focus. David spent years working in the service industry and a common expression is to hire for personality and train for skill. In his experience, the best team members are great people who work hard, he is more than happy to pay for them to learn specific skills because their personality will make sure they are a success. If everyone on the team is successful, then their clients will also be successful.
